  • Club officers, captains, players and spectators representing Palmerston Cricket Club are expected  to model the behaviour and attitudes outlined above. All club officials are committed to the club’s Code of Conduct and maintaining the open and welcoming club environment

Winning Games

Winning is not the primary objective of the club. The club considers winning as a potential outcome that stems from the development of the individual within the structure and objectives of the team and/or club.

Development of the Individual

Taking into account the physical maturity, skill level, aspirations and game sense of the player, Palmerston coaches and captains will aim to support players in the following areas:

  • Development of individual batting, bowling and fielding skills;
  • Development and knowledge of team play and tactics within the two phases of the game – batting and bowling;
  • Increased knowledge of cricket rules and strategical play;
  • Nurture and develop decision making ability through game related training exercises.
  • Foster personal development including leadership, self esteem and social skills.

Continued Development of Coaches

  • Palmerston Cricket Club and its coaches and captains are committed to the continued development of their coaching knowledge and methods. Coaches are expected to complete a Level 1 Coaching Accreditation in their first year as coach and continue to strive to add higher Levels as time and experience allow.
  • Where possible the Club will assist coaches in paying for this. The Club will also provide regular opportunity’s for coaches to participate in formal coaching seminars and clinics. It is important those coaches engage in these opportunities the Club provides for the betterment of the team and their own coaching experience.
  • Captains will share skills and practices with the other club captains and coaches to assist with collegial learning and spreading knowledge throughout the club for use in practices and game situations

All club based intervention (on and off the field) is to be positive intervention

  • Coaches / captains will always instruct and intervene in a positive and encouraging way.
  • It is the coach’s responsibility to provide a solution for the player, or work with a player to find a solution, to enable the player to focus on doing his best both on and off the field for Palmerston Cricket Club and for the individual themselves.
  • When instructing players, the use of fear or humiliation is not only inappropriate it is unlikely to be effective and such techniques will not be tolerated.

Rotation / Selection / Participation Policy

  • The team and role that each individual plays in each game for Palmerston is designed between the coach, captain and individual, and can change throughout a season
  • The level of team the player is selected for, and the position in the lineup they are used for bowling and/or batting is a shared responsibility between player and team leadership group from week to week
  • Each team and individual playing for Palmerston will be assessed constantly to ensure all are getting a fair go, and also tailored to the individual’s future aspirations and skill levels
  • All coaches/captain in the club are committed to, and responsible for this ongoing participation policy and its usage in weekly selection and game play

Club Focus on Development and Spirit

The club considers development of the individual and the promotion of the club spirit to be the number one aim. While each team’s focus will be on trying to win each game, the club views winning as a potential outcome from getting player development and club spirit right.

Each individual is also expected to focus on the team/club shared outcomes and spirit, as well as the drive to always play to win.
