The Manawatu Daily Times of October 24th, 1927 reported that "The cricket season opened in the Manawatu on Saturday when the Sportsground once again heard the cheerful sound bat meeting ball... There were two senior fixtures staged at the Sportsground, Old Boys meeting High School and RSA meeting the Railway Club, now known as Palmerston

The change of name certainly did not seem to hamper the success of the club, for from 1927 until the Second World War, Palmerston dominated cricket in the Manawatu. In fact during the 13 years the Club only failed to win the competition on two occasions. Throughout this period the Club, which was captained initially by A.M.(Joe) Ongley and then by Red Norris, had a strong core of players that changed little over those 13 years.
